Objective:

A European Union member state's government approached us with a strategic goal: to digitalize various ministry services, enhancing accessibility and convenience for EU citizens. The client was looking for a reliable partner who could provide highly qualified engineering talent to support the creation of secure, large-scale government portals.

Challenge:

The client’s expectations were high from the start. The key challenges included:

  • The team had access only to architectural documentation and initial system schemas—no implementation had yet begun.
  • Access to the live system was heavily restricted, only functioning for EU citizens using official government digital IDs and within the client’s national IP range.
  • Integration with external governmental services and APIs presented delays due to dependencies on third-party teams, occasionally blocking progress.
  • The solution needed to be secure, scalable, and compliant with strict national and EU-wide regulations.

Solution:

After initiating our cooperation, our approach was to immediately integrate skilled backend engineers into the client’s team. We personally joined the backend engineering team on March 11, 2024, during the early architectural phase.

Our primary goal was to build the entire system from scratch based on the provided architectural templates. We focused on delivering:

  • A robust backend foundation using industry-proven standards and practices.
  • Integration with secure authentication systems including OAuth2 and SAML.
  • Efficient handling of third-party service interactions and government-level APIs.
  • Seamless collaboration with the client’s internal teams and adherence to delivery schedules.

Despite external service bottlenecks, we consistently delivered on time, thanks to proactive communication and flexible task management.

Technologies:

Due to the NDA, the technology stack cannot be disclosed in full publicly.

  • Java,
  • Azure Cloud Services
  • PostgreSQL, Swagger
  • Jira, Confluence

Results:

  • Successfully delivered a functioning government portal
  • Launched the initial release on schedule, meeting the client’s strict timeline expectations.
  • Developed the full backend infrastructure from the ground up, starting with only architectural documentation.
  • Established a smooth collaboration process with the client and Brighten teams, despite challenges with external service providers.
  • Continued post-release support and optimization to ensure a stable, efficient, and high-performance system.
  • Achieved high client satisfaction, confirming the success of our ongoing partnership.
